03:00 No Regrets
05:00
|

if you someday pause about the situation
under that sacred place that you now call your home
I wonder if you think about your big decision
and all the ones who loved you that you left alone
was it really worth it?
did you change the world?
you know you didn’t deserve it
and it all seems a little absurd
the folly of a madman
is the downfall of the ones
who care the most
the boldest statements have the greatest consequences
it’s easy to confuse between what’s right and wrong
our lives cannot be measured by a single moment
we sing our song but then we need to carry on

03:05 Purpose
05:00
|
|||
it’s still dark out
and your eyes can’t quite stay open yet
but the time is now, it’s time to get to work
cause you got purpose
see the cool kids
acting stupid
and you’re glad that you’re not 22 again
cause you got purpose
up the creek with no paddle
can’t get back in the saddle
but showin’ up’s half the battle
when you got purpose
inspiration
dedication
hesitation, such a strange relationship
but you got purpose
all the numbers
in the colors
and the patterns form another universe
you got purpose

walked into the future yesterday
city streets destroyed in full display
put your suit on to save the world again
but who is gonna save you from yourself?
all we’ve got is today
nothing stands in our way
only fear to overcome
when the day is done
will tomorrow ever come?
Grady built himself a time machine
then you stepped into a catastrophe
running round the city trying to change the fates
frustrated, wished you’d waited for your friends
might be time for you to settle down
spent half your life waiting to touch the ground
in a world of sinners searching for a prayer
you pray that someday someone will find you

03:15 Time
05:00
|
|||
early June ’68
a country filled with love and hate
my mother gave me life that day
you took away the same
my big brother showed me everything
big sister watches over me
they pick me up when I’m falling down
and help me every step of the way
summer days and popsicles
basketballs and bicycles
all the cousins in the swimming pool
giant parties in the backyard
good at school and good at sports
but music is my living force
up all night in the studio
driving in my first car
nothing but TIME the memories we make
nothing but TIME tomorrow’s yesterday
nothing but TIME a moment in the stars
nothing but TIME we’re never who we are
two years at the university
I miss my roommate Brady O’Keefe
no better feeling being in a band
Boston changed everything
Syracuse to get a law degree
that’s when I met Debbie and Natalie
New York City possibilities
big plans and bigger dreams
pickup games
Academy
late nights
being who I wanna be
new love
old friends
puddle jumps
knowing I don’t have to pretend
blue skies
ice cream
falling leaves
in Thessaloniki
movie night
Crash Boat Beach
Ocracoke
listen to my best friend sing
met the woman who would be my bride
two daughters always by my side
they go to school where I used to be
same classrooms where I would dream
I was there when my father died
he gave me strength and my stubborn side
if there was just one thing that I could be
I’d be half the Dad he was for me
now your days linger on
19,581
maybe someday I’ll hear your eulogy
through celestial frequencies
there is a truth beyond the pleas
and polka dot conspiracies
a single moment changes everything
life lived without memories

03:20 Who We Are
05:00
|
|||
we can learn to be kind
we can learn to be loving
we can treat people right
we can treat people fair
if I could lose my home because of the one I love
where else could we go to be who we are?
everybody knows what’s right and wrong here
everybody knows it isn’t fair
an infinite succession of the present
the choice is clear
let us not be afraid
no-one here is the enemy
let’s be leaders again
be a beacon of hope
who can comprehend the way that we’re treated
when they don’t understand what’s different from them?
I don’t wanna wait anymore
if you never depart, then you never arrive
we are better than hate and fear
just trying to survive
we can learn to be kind
we can learn to be loving
we can treat people right
we can treat people fair
if I could lose it all because of the one I love
where else would we go to be who we are?

03:25 A Man is Dead
05:00
|
|||
I am sleeping with my best friend next to me
hearts are dreaming with our warm dog in between
we are shielded underneath these flannel sheets
and exactly six miles from me
and exactly when I’m asleep
a man is dead
from Chicago he commuted on a train
and his brother picked him up from where he’d been
now there’s no one gonna hear his voice again
and exactly six miles away
naked in the street where he lay
a man is dead
in the morning I will wake up late again
skim the headlines, try to see what’s happening
but I’ll know nothing of this new world where I live
where exactly six miles from here
living where I’m so unaware
where I live without any fear

03:30 On a Train
05:00
|
|||
on a train
with curtain drawn to keep away the danger
only faceless strangers
silhouettes
wood and steel and steam and air
create a perfect syncopated rhythm
(a pendulum)
impenetrable
no way in
no way out
into the night seeking solitude
passing the lamps as they glow
violence answered with mansuetude
still there’s a long way to go
one two three
surrendering to fates untold decision
praying for the light of day again
reborn anew
the circumstances culminating in this moment
limitless options, limited outcome
you will go, you will return not, in war shall you die
you will go, you will return not, in war shall you die
you will go, you will return, not in war shall you die
you will go, you will return, not in war shall you die
you will go, you will return, not in war shall you die
you will go, you will return, not in war shall you die

guns and lies, lies and shade
walk on in the big parade
go back again to get ahead
then pray for the living dead
make or break politics
throw it at the wall and watch it stick
but one day soon lose it all
love notes on an empty wall
fall asleep believing
there’s something worth seeing more
than what’s right in front of you
time to let the healing
begin for this great big world
a chance to build the future again
cowboys and indians
someone’s always gotta win
but what if there’s a better way
where everyone can play
satellite up above
wish upon a star your thinking of
send images through the air
we’ll watch them everywhere
don’t cross your heart
or hope to die
don’t ever stick that needle in your eye
another chance
when chances fade
the promise of a peaceful perfect day

03:40 Grace Under Wing
05:00
|
|||
lights out in the swinging city
cool nights say goodbye to June
blue lights swimming through the ceiling
closing time couldn’t come to soon
lies flow over devil water
bulletproof on the radio
yell fore in the wrong direction
lost in stereo
someday I’ll go
grace under wing
spirit is moving
angels will sing
move right and slow
city bells ring
far enough to get there and begin
get up, gotta get it started
stay down, nowhere left to fall
big bucks, seven million barrels
quick sell short then you take the call
abuse from the wrong direction
scapegoat and the seeds we sow
FSA gives their final notice
nothing left to know
someday I’ll go
grace under wing
spirit is moving
angels will sing
move right and slow
city bells ring
far enough to get there and begin again
get there again
the edge is where we place it
gotta get there again
when the world is wasted
get there again
and you’ve had enough
get there again
have you had enough?
no chance for a new tomorrow
no chance it ain’t going down
vultures need to feed their feelings
endlessly they’ll be coming round
blackout like a power outage
burnout like an atom bomb
fit and proper resurrection
walk before you run
I know the end is where we begin
I know it’s time to start again
I know a new day is coming
I know the end is where to begin
I know it’s time to let it in

03:45 I Love You
05:00
|
|||
time to wake the dead
move these creaky old bones as I will myself out of bed
started long ago
felt a love in my heart, wanted everyone else to know
weather’s gonna change
don’t like lighting that much but I really don’t mind the rain
just three simple words
if you say them enough you can bet that you’ll change the world
I love you
when it first began
they complained about me but I kept coming back again
now they cheer and wave
built a statue of me for the smiles and the love I gave
I even saw the queen
she said, “Johnny I love you” from the back of her black limousine
simple words to say
if you say them enough yours is not the only life you may save

animals with torches
animals with torches
animals torches
stars are burning
only taking orders from the highest place
no one lift a finger
no one lift a finger
no one lift a finger
heroes stay home
only taking orders from the highest place
violence is the ethos
violence is the ethos
violence is the ethos
come and join us
only taking orders from the highest place

03:55 In the In-Between
05:00
|
|||
A long long time ago, in a busy city called seventh heaven, a child was born. When they took their daughter home, the new parents were humbled by the child, and they were filled with joy. Smiles from their daughter, time spent together, feeding time with her, bright days ahead. When a fever fell over the child, the parents sought help. And returned to the place where the child was born. But waiting in the wings was another woman, a woman who couldn’t have a child of her own. In the middle of the night, the woman quietly crept to where the child slept. And without any warning, and without anyone knowing, the woman took the child away. No more smiles from their daughter, no more time spent together, no more feeding time with her, no more bright days ahead. Years passed, but the woman hid the child well. And raised the child as her own. Then something unexpected happened… the childless woman gave birth to a child of her own. The boy grew to love his sister, and lived to please his mother. They all shared smiles with each other, and time spent together, the breakfasts and the dinners, bright days ahead. In time the secret of the mother began to unravel. And the motherless child discovered who she really was. Now the parents who lost their child so long ago, were once again filled with joy. But their anger did not subside. And the once childless mother was sent far far away, locked up behind bars and walls, leaving her only son alone and motherless. No more smiles from his mother, no more time spent together, no more meals with each other, only dark days ahead.
Way up, down low, in the in-between is where we take control.
